What is "London Multi Listing Service" (MLS)

A Multiple Listing Service, or MLS, is a marketing database set up by a group of cooperating estate agents. It's purpose is to provide accurate and structured data about properties for sale. It also is a mechanism for the exclusive sellers agent to invited other estate agencies to introduce their buyers.

The londonmls.co.uk site contains most of the specifics about a home that buyers may need to book a viewing, which would normally include floor plans, photos, location maps etc. Other data that is not publicly accessible includes information that would endanger sellers' privacy or safety, such as seller contact information and times the home is vacant for viewing. This information is shared on our intranet site.

What is the origin of MLS

According to the U.S. National Association of Realtors (Estate Agents in UK)

In the late 1800s, real estate brokers regularly gathered at the offices of their local associations to share information about properties they were trying to sell. They agreed to compensate other brokers who helped sell those properties, and the first MLS was born, based on a fundamental principle that's unique to organized real estate: Help me sell my inventory and I'll help you sell yours.
